Global Academy visits Haven for Children

For Global Academy’s 3rd Quarter Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Activity, its volunteer Chefs, students living in the Southern metro, and staff visited the Haven for Children in Alabang, Muntinlupa City. October 13 was a Sunday filled with excited anticipations of happy faces and full hearts from both the volunteers and the children of the Haven.

For a short afternoon, these souls who are recovering from substance abuse or are mentally-challenged were given center stage. The attention given to them by way of food, fun, and acceptance, gave them the piece of heaven that they long for.

It is Chef Anjo dela Cruz’ first project as CSR head. “I am very fortunate that Chef Ogie Alberto has established a system for CSR activities before it was turned over to me.”, she shares, “Willing Globalistas from all of Global Academy’s locations were not hard to recruit for help. This lightened the tediousness of orientations, calls for pledges of support, solicitation of donations, food and gift preparations, and participation in the outreach proper.

For the past CSRs, Contadina was our main corporate sponsor. They supply pasta, oil and sauces for our feeding program. This quarter, Ms. Ayi Santos, our Marketing Consultant, tapped different companies and individuals for sponsorship. We got positive response from Unilever, Hearth Bakery, Estancia, Del Monte Fit n’ Right, and Ms Sherill Shei. Chives Bistro and Market (owned by Chef Nico Cruz) also sponsored our feeding program.

As if giving of themselves was not enough, overwhelming support poured out from all branches of Global Academy’s students, staff, and Chef Instructors by way of cash and gifts.

Chef Instructors (Chefs Gigi, Ching, Cez, Cho and Anjo) led and guided the student assistants in prepping and cooking. Chef Ogie organized and managed the group in packing the gift bags.

Needless to say, the stars of the day were the children. They actively participated in all the games. Even SAs and chefs (including Chef Benny, Global Academy President) played with the kids. The children sang, rapped and danced beautifully! They also loved the food, drinks and desserts that we prepared. Thanks to our sponsors and kitchen helpers - Contadina, Unilever, Chives Bistro and Market, Culinary Chefs, Baking Gels and SAs. What got them really excited was their hefty loot bags with all sorts of treats – biscuits, juices, personal and dental hygiene kits, school supplies, etc.

Aside from the steady smiles on the children’s faces, three of them expressed their appreciation by speaking in behalf of their community to share how thankful they are to receive such treats from us.”

On this day, the hearts that were mostly filled were not the beneficiaries, but those who served.
