A new business venture our graduates
Best friends, business partners and couple Meggi Gutierrez and Karim El-Khoury, both trained cooks who studied culinary together in Global Academy, wanted to collaborate on a project that represented both of their mixed identities (Gutierrez is Filipino-American while El-Khoury is Lebanese-Filipino). “He’s Lebanese so people ask him for hummus all the time,” says Gutierrez. “It’s kind of racist,” El-Khoury laughs. But admittedly, because of his background, they include both hummus and labneh balls on the menu.
