The Most Precious Gift, Is Time.

A community of lolos and lolas happily-greeted their adoptive Global Academy apos in their retirement home in Marikina recently. It was reminiscent of a traditional family Sunday, which this community excitedly anticipated. Genuine smiles and eager hugs were the obvious warm welcome which warmed the hearts and re-energized the Global chefs, staff, and students.

For years, Global Academy’s CSR quarterly activities have aimed to share of themselves and their skills in partnership with its sponsors and NGOS, to give less-fortunate communities a break from their challenging everydays. These communities have included indigent groups, the disabled, and homes for the elderly.

Once a beneficiary has been specified, announcements and calls for donations are put in place in all four Academy locations. Participants are sought as volunteers for food preparations, coordinations, and activity day specifics.

Chef Ogie Alberto heads these outreach activities and shares, “Usually we have a simple program during the outreach, beginning with exchange of introductions between Global Academy and the community beneficiary. Then we have some games or a short program to entertain the participants. Chef instructors and students have impromptu performances (singing or dancing) just to have fun. Then we serve the food we cooked and distribute simple gifts given by our sponsors.”

To the Global Academy outreach participants, the activities provide an enlightening perspective of material contentment. In this recent visit to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home for the Elderly, what was particularly evident was happiness that grows deeper than the physical comforts temporarily provided. The time spent with them and the attention they received are obviously most precious to them, giving them hope and enough fuel to face the next days and challenges of their lives.
